We will take Band Photos on Monday January 30 during band classes. The group photo will go in the yearbook and your child will have individual shots taken as well.

We will wear our formal band uniform for these photos.  Students are to come to class dressed in their black tux pants, white tux shirt, black dress shoes and black dress socks.  We will distribute vests and bowties at the beginning of class.  Students must come to class dressed - there will not be time for them to change into uniforms and get the group and individual shots taken. There will probably be time after the group and individuals to change out of uniform.

January is a busy time in band.  We thank you for your support of your child's music education and the Lake Jackson Intermediate Band.

LJIS Band Solo and Ensemble Contest Information -- Saturday January 28 -- Please Read Carefully

Most Performances will be at the Brazoswood HS Ninth Grade Center.  Percussion, Jazz Ensemble and Piano events will perform on the Main Campus.  Students/Parents are responsible for arranging their own transportation.  We will not provide a bus for this event due to the staggered performance schedule.

Dress for the contest will be the directors' definition of "Sunday Clothes".  For boys:  Nice shirt (button down or polo style without writing or graphics), nice dress pants (dockers style -- no jeans), dress shoes and socks (no athletic shoes).  The shirt is to be tucked in properly at all times (LJIS and Panther Band Dress Code).  For girls:  A dress, skirt or nice pants and top will be fine.  Dress so that you can play your instrument properly and be sure that your choice of clothing follows LJIS dress code.  Look nice -- it will go a long way toward getting positive marks for stage presence and making a positive first impression with your judge.

Schedule:  Each student will have a performance time and room assignment.  See the attached schedule for your specific performance time and location.  Each Student should plan on arriving in the warm-up area and begin warming up 30 minutes prior to performance time.  15 minutes prior to performance, the student should go to the performance room and check in with the room monitor.  If the contest is on schedule and the student performs at the assigned time, then each student will be at the contest site for about an hour.  See below an example of a student who has a performance at 2:00.

1:20 -- Arrive in Brazoswood HS parking lot dressed appropriately (shirt tucked in, etc.)

1:30 -- Assemble instrument in warm-up room and begin warming up.

1:45 -- Go to performance room and check in.  Stay quiet in halls outside performance room.

2:00 -- Walk in to performance room.  Smile at the judge and introduce yourself and your solo.  Perform

2:05 -- Finished performing.  Smile and say "Thank You."

2:06 -- Walk back to warm-up area and put instrument back in the case.

Students are free to leave the contest as soon as they have performed.  Students will receive comment sheets, ratings, and medals on Monday after the contest.

January is a busy time and we appreciate everyone who does their job.  Please call or e-mail if any of this information is unclear or if any details have been omitted.  Thanks for everything that you do and for your support of your child, music education, and the Lake Jackson Intermediate Band.

LJI Band Pant Return - DUE FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2011

Our contest and formal concert season is over.  Each of you did an amazing job this year. It is now time to turn in your band pants .  As communicated at the beginning of the year, pants must be returned with the hem being let out and professionally dry cleaned.  A cleaning ticket will be required when turning in the pants.

The preferred cleaner for the LJI Band is Frakey's Cleaners located at 215 Plantation Dr. Lake Jackson, Texas.  Their phone number is 979.297.4661.  Using Frakey's will be easier for you by saving you time.

Frakey's has agreed to give LJI Band Parents preferred pricing (hem removal charge of $0.25 and pant cleaning $2.89, excluding tax).  Additionally, once you drop off and pay for your pants to be processed, Frakey's will deliver your pants back to the LJI Band Hall.

Option 1:  Utilize Frakey's   Cleaners

1.       Drop off pants at Cleaners prior to Friday, May 6, 2011

2.       Identify yourself as an LJI Band Member, place students name on cleaning ticket

3.       Pay for your hem and cleaning you are done

Option 2: Utilize a cleaner of your Choice  (Cleaning  ticket will be required)

1.       Have hem removed

2.       Professionally dry cleaned pants  (Save your cleaning ticket)

3.       Pick up pants

4.       Write student's name on the cleaning ticket

5.       Staple cleaning ticket to the hanger

6.       Deliver pants to the LJI Band Hall on Friday, May 13, 2011 between 7:30am and 7:55am.

In the event  pants are lost or damaged, including cut hem.  The students will be responsible for going to Top Hats and Tails to order and pay for replacement pants.  Please contact Donnie Artley , 979.730.7250, no later than Friday, May 6, 2011 to discuss arrangements.

Students will be issued a "BISD not clear card" if pants are  not returned  or replaced.  This will block students from  student records and or  registration for classes  until the account is settled.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

Thank you for a great year!

Donnie Artley

ATTENTION SOON TO BE FRESHMAN BAND PARENTS

The next Buc Band Booster meeting will include Freshman Parent Orientation

It will be May 10, 2011 at 7:00 in the Band Hall at Brazoswood High School

Please join us to learn about the awesome Buc Band and support our kids!!

A BIG THANK YOU to our LJI Band Parents for generously donating $501 at the recent LJI Band Concert to help fund our 501(c)3 tax exempt application fee of $850!

501(c)3 is a tax status that will allow the LJI Band to apply for and receive grant monies. To apply for the tax status requires a one time application fee of $850. The LJI Band Board feels securing this tax status will ultimately help offset the funding shortcomings for our program resulting from the Texas education financial crisis. Once we have secured the funding for the application, the LJI Band Board will submit the application and once granted, prepare the necessary paperwork to request the grant monies that we will be eligible to receive. As mentioned at the concert, the Band Board has identified multiple grants totaling $500 - $5000 to which we will be requesting. We are very proud of our band directors and students! We thank you for your support!

 Sincerely,

LJI Band Board Officers
